If you’re dealing with a sudden toothache, a cracked tooth, swelling on your gums or face, or an injury that happened earlier today, you don’t want to wait days hoping it improves. When you’re searching for an Emergency Dentist Etobicoke or an Emergency Dentist near me, you’re usually trying to do the right thing: get urgent dental help quickly, understand what’s going on, and stop the pain.

At Mimico Dental, we’re here to support patients in Etobicoke with urgent dental concerns—helping you feel more comfortable while we assess the cause and guide you toward the right treatment plan.

What counts as a dental emergency?

A “dental emergency” isn’t just about extreme pain—it’s also about symptoms that could worsen or become more complicated if delayed. Common emergencies include:

    • Severe tooth pain that’s getting worse or keeping you awake
    • Swelling in the gums, jaw, or face
    • Possible infection/abscess symptoms, such as a pimple-like bump on the gum, bad taste, or drainage
    • Broken, cracked, or chipped teeth, especially if there’s sharp edges
    • Lost fillings or crowns causing sensitivity, food getting stuck, or sharp pain
    • Knocked-out teeth or dental trauma from falls, sports, or accidents
    • Bleeding that won’t stop after gentle pressure

If you’re unsure whether your situation is urgent, it’s still worth calling. Many clinics can triage by phone and advise the safest next steps.

Why getting urgent dental care matters

Dental infections and injuries can progress quickly. Even if pain temporarily improves, the underlying issue—like a crack, nerve irritation, or infection—may still be there. Waiting too long can sometimes lead to:

    • more intense pain
    • larger areas of swelling
    • infection spreading
    • more complex treatment later

That’s why people looking for an Emergency Dentist Etobicoke often want prompt assessment and clear guidance.

Emergency dental concerns Mimico Dental can help with

While every case is different, urgent visits commonly involve one of these situations:

    Tooth pain relief

Tooth pain can be caused by decay, a cracked tooth, nerve inflammation, or infection. The goal of an emergency visit is to find the source of the problem—not just cover up the discomfort.

    Cracked or broken teeth

A chipped or fractured tooth can be very sensitive. Emergency care may focus on protecting the tooth, reducing irritation, and planning the right restoration based on the damage.

    Swelling and possible abscess care

Swelling is a key reason to seek urgent attention. We’ll examine the affected area and determine whether infection is involved, then recommend the safest approach.

    Lost fillings or crowns

When a filling or crown comes loose, the tooth can become exposed and painful. Urgent evaluation helps prevent further damage and keeps you comfortable while you get full care.

    Dental trauma (injury)

If you’ve had a fall, sports injury, or accident, trauma can affect the tooth’s structure and supporting tissues. The sooner you’re assessed, the better the chance of preventing complications.

I have been going to this dental office since 1982. My first dentist was Dr Arthur Keyfitz. He was amazing and he went over and above to care for my teeth especially because I’ve always had problems. He retired and sold the practise to Dr Douglas. Dr Douglas took over the care of my teeth for 10 years. He was a good dentist I have met some of the new dentists and I absolutely love them. The dentist caring for my teeth now is compassionate, caring, and is an excellent dentist. AJ is my dental hygienist and he is HANDS DOWN the BEST hygienist I’ve ever had and I’ve had a lot of them since 1982 but he stands out because he is very thorough and easy to talk to. I absolutely recommend him. He’s amazing Thank you Mimico dental for taking excellent care of me.

    FAQs

How do I know if I need an emergency dentist?

If you have severe tooth pain, swelling, suspected infection, a knocked-out tooth, or a broken/cracked tooth causing significant discomfort, you should seek urgent evaluation.

Yes—urgent assessment helps determine the cause and the safest treatment approach. Swelling and infection symptoms should not be ignored.

If you have trouble breathing/swallowing, rapidly spreading swelling, or you feel seriously ill, medical care may be necessary. For most dental emergencies, a dentist is the right first step.

Time matters. If it’s recent, contact an emergency dentist right away. If possible, handle the tooth by the crown, rinse gently with clean water if it’s dirty, and bring it with you.

Often, yes. X-rays help confirm issues that aren’t visible during a quick exam.

You can focus on comfort—soft foods, cold compress for swelling, and gentle salt-water rinses if helpful. But it’s still important to get the underlying issue checked.
